Mina Shirakawa came seconds away from beating Mariah May at the Winter is Coming special of Dynamite.
The AEW star was in a heated and personal feud with her former tag team partner and had to suppress her emotions in order to focus on winning the biggest prize for women in AEW. Unfortunately, Mina Shirakawa failed to beat May, and now it’s back to the drawboarding for the 36-year-old.
Looking back at her recent title match, Mina recalls the pressure in being in the main event and her current feelings about the AEW Women’s World Champion, “Main event for AEW Dynamite, I had the pressure for the main event because this was live and many girls want to be the main event of a show. So, I had many pressure, stress, but I did it. I was sad because I lost but the more sad thing was being betrayed by Mariah May because me and Mariah made a unit in Japan. We had strong bond between us, I never imagined the bond was broken so I’m so sad but I decided, opponent, opposite side, so I have to beat her up in the future.”
Could we get Mina Shirakawa vs. Mariah May II?
That should be a great rematch if it does happen. However, May has her hands busy at the moment as she’ll be fighting Thunder Rosa in a Tijuana Street Fight at World’s End on December 28th. And if she can past the former AEW Women’s World Champion then she’ll likely deal with her returning rival, Toni Storm.
Shirakawa is also busy as she’ll be defending her RevPro Undisputed British Women’s title against Mercedes Mone at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th. That match was made official at the Strong Style Evolved show in California. When talking about her upcoming title match, Shirakawa made it clear just how important her title match with Mone is:
“I was a big fan of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. I love Jushin Thunder Liger and Tanahashi. This past February, I challenged for the IWGP Women’s Title. Before the match, I was impressed to wrestle for NJPW. It was my first time. It is very important for me. Now, Mercedes is the face of the New Japan STRONG Women’s Division. She is great. We protect the New Japan ring. I have to stand out more and more in New Japan STRONG, more than (Mercedes) Mone. That is my mission."
