The history between Marty “The Villain” Scurll and Adam Cole will mostly be remembered when it was revealed that the former ROH World Television Champion was replacing the former ROH World Champion in the popular Bullet Club faction.
As many of you know, Cole was signed to WWE/NXT and the 30-year-old was the leader of the staple since early 2016. Throughout that time, Cole defeated Jay Lethal to capture the ROH World Championship, and managed to reclaim the belt in early 2017 at Wrestle Kingdom 11 by beating Kyle O’Reilly.
During this time, Scurll was a virtual unknown to many American audiences, with the England native mainly making a name for himself in Progress Wrestling. Scurll didn’t officially make his debut in Ring of Honor until November 2016; however, the 31-year-old instantly made an impact within the promotion as he beat Will Ospreay to become the ROH World Television Champion.
Scurll would go on to successfully defend the belt against Dragon Lee, Juice Robinson, Donovan Dijak, Sonjay Dutt, Lio Rush, and the former three-time ROH World Champion himself, Adam Cole. It was at Supercard of Honor XI that the two competitors would clash for the first time ever.
Going in, there was tension between Cole and his respective Bullet Club members and the former ROH World Champion was looking to prove why he should’ve been named the rightful leader of the big faction. Check out the incredible back-and-forth match-up between Adam Cole and Marty Scurll below:
