NJPW Star Hiromu Takahashi Is Believed To Have Broken His Neck During His GI SPECIAL Title Match
NJPW's Hiromu Takahashi successfully defended his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Dragon Lee at the G1 Special last night, but the talented star may have suffered a serous injury in the process.
During the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match at last night's NJPW G1 Special, Dragon Lee hit champion Hiromu Takahashi with a release Phoenix Plex, dropping him right on top of his head.
Takahashi went on to win the match and seemed okay, but Dave Meltzer has heard that this is most definitely not the case.
"Hiromu Takahashi suffered a broken neck, apparently broken neck, that’s the preliminary word that we’re getting from that, what did they call it... It’s Kota Ibushi’s move... the Phoenix-plex. Usually when he does it he bridges into a cradle and Dragon did it to Hiromu and Dragon Lee let go and Hiromu landed right on the top of his head. And he continued the match, did a Canadian Destroyer, won with the Time Bomb, but it was... you could see...
That was the plan. It’s not like they cut anything short, you could see they went right to... they didn’t rush to the finish. So he finished the match, he retained the championship, and I guess he collapsed backstage or something. They took him to the hospital and we just got, yeah, the preliminary word is they thought he had a broken neck, so that’s pretty bad news. Hopefully it’s not as bad as that but that’s the word that we just got.”
We'll keep you guys updated on this situation, but for now let's just hope that Meltzer is mistaken and any injury Hiromu may have sustained won't keep him out of action for too long.
