At the age of 45, former WWE Women’s champion Jazz has been in the wrestling business for nearly 20 years. First starting out in ECW, and then transitioning into the WWE; the former women’s champion came in as the tough powerhouse of the division and had a memorable feud against WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus.
Jazz’s tenure with the WWE would finally end in 2007, and since then, the former women’s champion has been wrestling on the independent scene. Now the NWA World Women's Champion, Jazz was the special guest on the latest episode of Women's Wrestling Weekly.
The NWA World Women’s champion recalls being released from the company:
"They called us to the back and said, 'we were wrestling too much like men.' I thought, well that's the end of my career."
Jazz speculates that if she had blond hair and blue eyes then perhaps she would still be in the WWE:
"If I wasn't in the company, I would be a part of the company. Because right now today, I still have no clue of why I was released. I'm championed one day and released the next day."
She then talks about whether she’s experienced racism in wrestling and shares that she doesn’t believe the WWE knows how to market African Americans:
"I wouldn't say I had experienced it. But, honestly with my ability and my way of work... if I were blonde hair and blue eyed, I would probably still be on TV now. I don't think they (WWE) knows how to market African Americans. I was a champion and I've never had an action figure. They did the screening and scanning and said my action figure is in high demand and I never saw it."
