The ROH Women’s Pure Title Tournament is finally underway!
Death Before Dishonor was this past Friday. During the pay-per-view, Tony Khan finally released the brackets for the ROH Women’s Pure Title tournament and the names and matches are officially listed below:
- Deonna Purrazzo vs Trish Adora
- Billie Starkz vs Olympia
- Serena Deeb vs Yuka Sakazaki
- Queen Aminata vs. Taya Valkyrie
Taya Valkyrie is already eliminated as Aminata and the AEW/ROH star kicked off the tournament and she was on the losing end. The dates for the upcoming matches have yet to be confirmed.
Now the ROH Women’s Pure Title was created back in April and the tournament was originally supposed to lead into Supercard of Honor, but it didn’t. Why? Well, Tony had to push back the tournament due to injuries. It’s not clear when the inaugural champion will be crowned, though the next ROH pay-per-view won’t be until December 5.
The tournament isn't long enough to hold out until then so it’s likely that the champion will be crowned on television. Though that’s pure speculation. The Pure title has a certain set of rules that differentiates from the other belts on the roster. Below are the official pure match rules if you’re not familiar with ROH (rules translated by Sports Illustrated):
- Both wrestlers have three rope breaks to stop submission holds and pinfalls.
- After a wrestler exhausts his rope breaks, submission and pin attempts on or under the ropes by his opponent are considered legal.
- No closed-fist punches to the face permitted.
- Open-handed slaps or chops to the face are permitted.
- Punches to the rest of the body are allowed, excluding low blows.
- The first use of a closed fist to the face receives a warning.
- The second use of a closed fist to the face results in disqualification.
- The title can change hands via disqualification and countout.
- Outside interference will result in automatic termination from the roster for the wrestler that interferes.
- If a title match reaches its time limit without a winner being declared, the winner is decided by a panel of three judges.
Who will be the inaugural ROH Women’s Pure Champion? We’ll find out soon!
