James Storm Explains Why He Chose To Return To IMPACT WRESTLING After Making His NXT Debut In 2015
Back in 2015, "The Cowboy" James Storm appeared on an episode of NXT, but that was the one and only time we'd see him in a WWE ring. Now, Storm explains why he ultimately chose to return to Impact Wrestling...
A couple of years ago, James Storm was featured on NXT to a raucous ovation. At the time, fans assumed this was just the beginning of The Cowboy's WWE career, and even when he didn't appear over the following weeks it was assumed creative were simply working on a new gimmick or character for him.
Then, the weeks turned into months and it became very clear that Storm wasn't coming back.
When he eventually returned to Impact Wrestling (Then TNA) it became obvious that things didn't work out, but during an interview with USA Today Storm commented on exactly what went down for the first time:
“Everything is about timing. I didn’t think it was the right time. I was treated with respect when I went down there, Hunter [WWE executive vice president] Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and I talked about things. He just said, ‘At the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you. If things don’t work out, you have my number. Give me a call.’ It was great for him to say that to me.
At the time, I don’t think I was ready for it with some stuff with my family life and my personal life to take care of. He understood that. It had nothing to do with wrestling. But never say never is the wrestlers’ motto that we live by. If it presented itself, I would talk it over my family again and see what we could do.”
Is it possible that the great success of Storm's former tag-partner, Bobby Roode, is making The Cowboy regret his decision now? Possibly - but as he mentions here, there's nothing to say he can't give NXT another go in the future. Beer Money 2.0 anyone?
