We could see an eventual match-up between the two cruiserweight champions soon.
Back at Worlds Collide in January, Jordan Devlin beat Angel Garza, Isaiah Scott, and Travis Banks to win the prestigious belt and the 30-year-old successfully defended the title against talents such as Kushida, Lio Rush, and Tony Nese before the Ireland native was forced out of action due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In response to no longer having a cruiserweight champion being able to wrestle in the United States, Triple H created a multi-man tournament to crown an interim champion, which Santos Escobar ultimately won by beating Drake Maverick.
Devlin made it known that he wasn’t happy with the situation and the NXT UK star cut a promo about being the real cruiserweight champion. Devlin blasted Escobar’s belt by calling it a “little replica title” and made it clear that he’s the one and only top dog in the division.
Not surprisingly, Escobar didn’t take too lightly over his title being called a replica and responded on Twitter to Devlin’s video about being the real cruiserweight champion:
It’s clear that the company is building towards a match-up between the two cruiserweight title holders; however, its unknown when the champions will finally collide. Devlin hasn't wrestled since March, with his last match being against former WWE NXT UK star Travis Banks.
