Cody Rhodes Calls CM Punk's Legendary 2011 Pipe-Bomb Promo A "Defining Moment For Professional Wrestling"
Many wrestlers have already shown their appreciation for CM Punk's fantastic "pipe-bomb" back in 2011, and now Punk's former colleague Cody Rhodes has given his take on the game-changing promo. take a look...
Though CM Punk might well be done with pro-wrestling for good, his 2011 "pipe-bomb" on WWE RAW is still being cited as one of the best promos in the history of the business. This is because Punk spoke from the heart, addressed things which were supposed to be off-limits, and really created that rare element of uncertainly among fans about whether or not his words were a shoot or a work.
It's something that happens once in a blue moon in pro-wrestling, but when it does it shakes things up and can even change the face of the business.
In a recent interview with FOX Sports: Braves, former WWE Superstar and current ROH Champion Cody Rhodes talked about Punk's promo and how he feels it changed the wrestling industry:
"The business is just in this like, rapid – I envision it as being in this test tube and taking various shapes every hour and you can not predict it anymore. It’s because of guys – I often throw it back to the ‘Pipe Bomb’ promo of CM Punk, being this really defining moment for professional wrestling because it was the first time these streams really crossed. Some of the things he was talking about he had mentioned Ring Of Honor, and then I look at what The Young Bucks have done. They’re legitimately not needing WWE. Not being a fan of where they work as much as a fan of themselves as a talent and as a unit. That attitude is kind of caught like wildfire, it has made it the most fun time to be a pro wrestler and a wrestling fan because legitimately anything can happen. I am a free agent. I haven’t signed with Ring Of Honor but I damn sure like, love the Honor brand and I really treasure the responsibility of being its world champion.”
Chances are we will see another promo that has at least close to the same effect eventually, but many WWE fans will be hoping that happens sooner rather than later.
