Former WCW Boss Eric Bischoff Has An Interesting Take On WWE Cutting Pyro To Save Money

WWE has started removing pyro from shows in order to push up 2017's profits and someone who knows plenty about running a wrestling promotion, Eric Bischoff, has now weighed in on why that's a good thing.

If you've ever watched RAW, SmackDown Live, or even a PPV in person, you'll know that one of the coolest parts of the experience is watching the pyro go off. Whether this is when the show begins or during a certain wrestler's entrance, it's always exciting to see but doesn't exactly have the same impact when you're sitting at home watching WWE programming on your TV or tablet.

Well, as WWE looks to try and increase this year's profits, the decision has been made to scrap pyro. While it's not gone for good, it's no longer used to kick off shows and has been removed from the entrances of wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and Shinsuke Nakamura. While you may think that puts a dampener on things, Eric Bischoff has an entirely different take on the matter.

"Sometimes you have to make decisions to make money but by not having pyro in every show it also gives you the opportunity for your PPVs, or a special match that you ar going to have on television, to then use pyro and make it feel like an even bigger deal. If you are constantly using pyro you get so used to seeing it that it doesn’t really matter much anymore. I am sure they have to find all kinds of different ways to continue to save money. It’s just the nature of business. As far as having to get rid of pyro goes I don’t think it’s the end of the world at all and I think it provides them the opportunity to make something even more special when they do use it."

It's an excellent point and using it selectively will definitely make big shows feel, well, bigger! Using it at every opportunity isn't going to increase ratings or a fan's opinion of the various WWE Superstars who have made use of it and there's no denying that it will have more of an impact if it's saved. Our next chance to possibly see it return is SummerSlam, so we'll find out soon anyway!
