WWE has stacked Saturday Night’s Main Event with some intriguing matches. The return of the WWE special features two world championship matches and the crowing of the first-ever Women’s United States Champion. Unless Triple H decides to break his five-match card rule, the line-up has been made official. Let’s get started with the biggest match at the show.

Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship

It’s easy to roll your eyes at Kevin Owens’ latest heel turn because it feels like he turns every other year or so. However, WWE has done a wonderful job developing Owens’ character into this unhinged lunatic. Owens turning in a backstage segment was creative, and the booking for him in the following weeks has turned him into a credible challenger.

Big character changes usually result in huge wins. After all, Shinsuke Nakamura returned with a different character and won the United States title dominantly. But despite the strong booking of Kevin Owens, I don’t see Cody dropping the belt anytime soon.

A big part of it is WWE planting the seeds for Rock/Cody when the former WWE Champion pinned the current champ on Night One of WrestleMania. WWE could pull a swerve by giving Owens a quick title run.

With The Royal Rumble around the corner, it’s possible that Owens could win by nefarious means on Saturday, but gets his comeuppance at the Royal Rumble. That would shake up the title scene a bit as Owens is the more interesting character of the two right now, but I firmly believe that Cody is walking out the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

Gunther vs. Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest in a Triple Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship

Gunther’s “face turn” has gotten off to an awkward start. That’s because WWE didn’t put in the work to turn Gunther into a likable babyface. Heck, I’m still questioning whether he’s a face or not.

Damian Priest isn’t getting the title back so soon. Though he’s been built strong, the momentum just isn’t there yet for another Priest title run. Finn Balor is coming off a forgettable loss to Priest at Bad Blood. It doesn’t help that Finn and The Judgment Day haven’t come across as serious threats since they turned on Rhea and Priest.

Though Gunther’s WrestleMania match isn’t clear (my money is on John Cena), it would be a disappointing end to his title reign if he dropped it here. This should be a really good match, but Gunther will walk out with the win here.

Winner: Gunther

Liv Morgan vs. Iyo Sky for the Women’s World Championship

In reality, this match should be the easiest pick on the list. WWE has been telling us that Liv Morgan will face Rhea Ripley again. In fact, WWE has been telling us that Rhea Ripley will take the belt off of Liv Morgan soon. Iyo Sky is a placeholder. Or is she?

See, the Liv Morgan/Rhea Ripley feud has gone on for far too long. It would be a mistake for the company to drag it out until WrestleMania. There just isn’t enough material storyline-wise to justify that being the big Mania match.

However, Iyo’s stock has been rising since she turned babyface. Her athleticism and charisma are nicely translating over to the crowd and there’s been some hints that Iyo Sky could end up facing Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World title. That would be an awesome WrestleMania match.

Liv’s heel turn has done wonders for her character, but the division has been held back as a whole because it’s mainly been about Liv, Dom, and Rhea. I can see a scenario where Rhea helps out Iyo by getting rid of Raquel and Dom at ringside, allowing Iyo to get a clean win.

But, there’s just been too much building toward Liv/Rhea to simply ignore that. I’d much prefer to move on from that feud, but Rhea Ripley has to get that big win over Morgan. Hopefully, that comes at the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber.

Winner: Liv Morgan

Finals of the Women’s United States Title tournament: Bayley, Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, and Michin

First, I have not seen the spoilers for who’s supposed to win the tournament so my guess is purely educated. Ruins the fun and drama of knowing who’s going to win ahead of time.

Anyway, this all boils down to what the WWE wants the first title reign to be. Is Triple H looking for a workhorse champion? Bayley perfectly fits that spot. However, Bayley doesn’t need the belt. As disappointing as her title reign was (and that’s on lackluster booking from creative, not Bayley), WWE needs to create new stars, and Bayley’s an established veteran.

Tiffany Stratton also doesn’t need the U.S. title. She WILL win the Women’s title eventually. I’m surprised that creative put her into this tournament in the first place as she’s coming off of a loss at WarGames. Then again, Tiffany two belts has a nice ring to it. Could she win the U.S. and Women’s titles within the same period? Anything’s possible. But I’m eliminating Tiffany from this equation.

That leaves Chelsea Green and Michin. This title is perfect for them. Both women have stepped up in 2024 and it would be somewhat surprising if the finals didn’t see a rematch between the two. Michin has worked hard this past year, and Chelsea Green has just been a true star throughout 2024. It doesn’t matter what situation she’s in, Green tends to be the most entertaining aspect of it. With Green being at a peak in popularity, now’s the perfect time to give her something meaningful to do.

Winner: Chelsea Green

Dark Horse Pick: Tiffany Stratton

Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn

I don’t know what the future holds for Drew McIntyre. I don’t know what the future holds for Sami Zayn. McIntyre is coming off an incredible year and it would be shocking if he wasn’t on the WrestleMania card.

Sami has had an eventful year as well, but the former Intercontinental champion’s placement on the card seems to be of a journeyman. He’ll get a couple of big wins here and there, but his place is to mainly put over the bigger stars on the roster.

It would be cool to see Sami finally win the Undisputed or World Heavyweight Championship. But that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. Drew is coming off a big loss to CM Punk and desperately needs a strong win. Beating Sami Zayn will help him regain some momentum. Sami could also get a win here and it could signal something deeper for Drew if he starts to go on a losing streak, but this feels like Drew’s night to win.

Winner: Drew McIntyre
