Over the past couple of years, WWE has put a much greater share of the spotlight on female talent and that's included ditching the antiquated "Divas" term (much to the chagrin of people like Jerry "The King" Lawler). Now, they're treated as Superstars and no longer looked down on by fans of management hence why there's already talk of two women headlining next year's WrestleMania.
During a recent interview with The Wrap, Natalya was asked to share her thoughts on why Total Divas has never changed its title despite WWE no longer referring to women by that name.
"You know, I’m not sure actually," she admitted. "I’ve heard different rumblings. I’ve heard that, you know, [executive producer] Nikki Bella had talked about it openly and said, you know, she wanted to change the name, and that we should go from ‘Divas’ to something else.”"
"It’s tough because, the way I look at it is, yes, in WWE we’re not called Divas anymore, we’re called Superstars. But ‘Total Divas’ is such a popular show that, would the mainstream audience understand if we changed the name? I think the most important part is keeping the show authentic. Keeping it real and true to what it’s always been, and that starts with the cast."
Ratings for Total Divas still aren't good so E! changing the name seems highly unlikely and Total Superstars wouldn't really work if we're being honest. Do you think the show needs a rebrand?
