AEW President Tony Khan Is STILL Upset With Jack Perry And Reportedly Blames Him For CM Punk Being Fired

AEW President Tony Khan is said to still be upset with Jack Perry for his role in the backstage altercation which ultimately led to CM Punk being fired and returning to WWE. Find more details here...

By now, we're sure you're familiar with what led to AEW firing CM Punk. To quickly recap the events of last August's All In, Jack Perry is believed to have taken a deliberate shot at the Best in the World during his pre-show match, leading to a backstage confrontation and alleged fight.

AEW President Tony Khan has since claimed his very life was in danger during their altercation and subsequently fired Punk for his actions (AEW's loss proved to be WWE's gain).

For his role in what happened, Jack Perry was suspended. In recent months, we've seen the former Jungle Boy compete for New Japan Pro Wrestling, leading to speculation he might have been forgiven by AEW and that Khan could be plotting an angle for his eventual return.

Well, it seems that's not the case, after all.

Talking to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained, "He has not been fired. He’s absolutely not been fired, but they’re not using him."

"Tony’s really mad at him because he cost him CM Punk. He’s getting the blame," the pro wrestling historian continued. "He probably should have been suspended for a month or two. Where are we at, seven months now? Seven months. It’s ridiculous. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime at this point. I mean, it's like it's his fault because the other guy like lost just mind?"

Alvarez then chimed in to say, "I was gonna say I mean he didn't cost Tony CM Punk. CM Punk cost Tony CM Punk by getting into a fight over this. Punk could have just got to Tony and said, "Suspend this dude. That was unprofessional,' and that would’ve been it."

Now, it's worth pointing out that both Alvarez and Meltzer are big AEW supporters who have never shied away from making their preference for the company known (Meltzer, in particular, has greatly tarnished his legacy in recent years with his unwavering support for them).

While Punk should have kept his cool at All In, there's simply no getting around the fact that it was Perry's unprofessionalism which played a key role in the Best in the World's firing.

Now, he's back in WWE and, despite being on the shelf with an injured tricep, Punk has proven himself a major draw for the company at a time when it's on a hot streak. Ratings for AEW, meanwhile, continue to decline, even after Will Ospreay and Mercedes Mone were signed to lucrative deals.

With that in mind, we're not exactly shocked to hear Tony is upset...

"AEW's loss proved to be WWE's gain"

Yes, I'm sure they're thrilled to have paid god knows how many million dollars for Glass Phil to wrestle one match a year between injuries.

"Now, it's worth pointing out that both Alvarez and Meltzer are big AEW supporters who have never shied away from making their preference for the company known"

Weird thing to say in an article about Alvarez and Meltzer clearly criticizing TK's booking decisions. And I agree with them, that's some petty shit.

"While Punk should have kept his cool at All In, there's simply no getting around the fact that it was Perry's unprofessionalism which played a key role in the Best in the World's firing."

Yes, there's no getting around the fact that someone said something that made Punk fly off the handle and start a fist fight backstage before opening a Pay Per View. Maybe if no one ever said anything to or about him other than "Yes sir, Mr Brooks" we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. They should have known that CM Punk is a petulant child who can't comport himself professionally, despite multiple chances across multiple organizations. Maybe a corporate policy to only say nice things to and about certain co workers? Or a sign that says "CM Punk is allowed to cut a promo on you, but you are not to respond in any way" would have done the job? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tony Khan cost Tony Khan CM Punk. He shouldn't have been fired for the fight, both him an Perry should have gotten a 3 month suspension and assigned to some corporate training during that time to act professionally at work.

@1stDalek - I disagree. It’s a first offense for Jack, it’s a second offense well within the probationary return period for Sell Out Punk. But I’m also an anti-Phil Brooks mark. I’d justify it, but most of my criticism of him comes from ironic punk gatekeeping and isn’t worth writing. Anyways, I wouldn’t put it past old Sell Out Punk to have been talking to old contacts at WWE concurrent to his return at AEW in order to shop the best offer he could and possibly taking it upon himself to get fired when the money at the other company turned out better. After all, isn’t he the one who walked back into the place he walked out of in 2012 and declared he was “there for the paycheck”? I’m seriously asking because I avoid his stuff. I hope HHH books him in a run similar to Edge’s last run there - no gold and a lot of jobbing.

Everyone’s worried about Jack Perry, but when will we get any update on Britt Baker or Jamie Hayter?
