This past Wednesday, AEW Dynamite easily outdrew NXT with an astounding 967,000 total viewers, according to ShowBuzz Daily.

The news isn’t too shocking given the fact that NXT was simply an awards show that highlighted the best of 2019. Dynamite featured a wild six-man tag team match between The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega vs. PAC & The Lucha Brothers, Cody Rhodes vs. Darby Allin, and a Four-way match for the AEW Women’s Championship.

The 967,000 viewers is the highest viewership number for AEW since October 16th and the fourth-highest viewership since the company’s debut on TNT. NXT averaged just 548, 000 total viewers.

As previously stated, the black and yellow brand simply featured a Year-End Awards special such as Adam Cole winning Male Competitor of the Year and Shayna Baszler winning Female Competitor of the Year. While the number is indeed down from the previous week, which was a taped episode that drew 831,000 viewers, the fact that over 500,000 viewers opted to watch a Year-End awards show is impressive.

The real battle begins next week, with both brands going live head-to-head. Dynamite already has three matches confirmed with the possible main event being Cody & Dustin Rhodes vs. The Lucha Brothers; however, NXT has yet to announce any matches for their first live episode of 2020.
