Chris Jericho Doesn't Believe That Baron Corbin Is Ready For The Main Event

Stomping Grounds is set for Sunday, and the general census going in is that the event is shaping up to be lackluster on paper. One of the big matches and possibly the main event of the show is Baron Corbin vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship, a match-up that many aren’t too thrilled to see once again.

Chris Jericho talked about the WWE Universal Championship match while previewing the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view on his podcast, Talk is Jericho, and highlights the title match as one of the problems with WWE programming at the moment (transcript courtesy of wrestlinginc.com):

"This match, to me, once again is one of the problems with WWE and maybe one of the reasons why tickets haven't sold well in Tacoma," Jericho said. "We just saw this match two weeks ago at Super [Show Down]. The classic thing is my neighbor is a good guy too, [that] doesn't mean [Corbin] should be headlining pay-per-views over and over again."

Jericho highlights the positives of the #1 contender for the Universal championship; however, the current AEW star doesn’t believe Corbin is main event ready at the moment. The former Intercontinental Champion states Samoa Joe as an example of a guy who should be chasing the top title on the flagship brand right now:

"There's heat, there's go-away heat, there's this guy isn't ready heat," Jericho explained. "Corbin [is a] solid worker, solid personality, great guy. I don't think he's ready for the main event especially when you got Samoa Joe four or five matches down working for the United States Championship. Flip-flop it. Let Corbin work his way up through the ranks and let a guy who is a legit proven headliner who has drawn money. I know you're not supposed to say TNA in WWE but let's be honest, the biggest pay-per-view in TNA history was Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe. Joe can walk the walk and talk the talk. I think Corbin is still learning. I think the difference in this one is that there's a special guest referee that's going to be chosen by Corbin."

Tomorrow night will be a chance for Corbin to prove many of his doubters wrong as he’ll face Seth Rollins for the Universal championship in a WWE Super ShowDown rematch. The match will have a special guest referee added, who hasn’t been confirmed just yet.
