All Elite Wrestling has officially announced that Cody will challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming Full Gear pay-per-view.

We've been told from the start that wins and loses matter in AEW, and company president Tony Khan says that's why Cody is first in line for a shot at the title.

Cody vs. Jericho will no doubt be a great match, but is AEW giving it to us a little too early? Cody has become the promotions top babyface (almost by default, but still), and The Painmaker is by far its top heel, so why not hold off and allow Jericho to get a few defenses under his hat while building towards the match with Cody?

At any rate, the PPV doesn't take place until November, so there's plenty of time to add some heat to this thing.
