Bandido is back!
Not surprisingly, Chris Jericho beat Matt Cardona to retain the ROH World Championship. But the “King of New York” didn’t win clean as Bryan Keith hit Cardona with the belt to get the cheap win for Jericho. After the match, Big Bill and Bryan Keith attacked Cardona until Bandido’s music hit.
The former ROH World Champion ran down the ring and successfully got the better of The Learning Tree. It's clear that ROH is setting up Bandido vs. Chris Jericho. Dynamite had been running vignettes for the 29-year-old for the past three weeks, so it was a genuine shock that Bandido came back to Ring of Honor.
However, the AEW star may be injured again. Bandido hit a missile dropkick where he landed on his head. Then the rest of the segment was extremely awkward as you can tell that everyone knew that Bandido wasn’t alright.
There’s no word on whether he suffered a concussion or not. It would be a shame if Bandido was injured again as he’s come off a year plus layoff due to a wrist injury. Hopefully, everything is okay and he can start to regain the momentum he had before his sudden injury.
Bandido was on track to become a big star as he made quite the impression during his Ring of Honor run in 2018. It’s not clear if Bandido is a temporary body in ROH, or a permanent fixture. As previously stated, his vignettes were playing on Dynamite, so it seemed that the direction was for Bandido to return to the flagship show.
Tony Khan didn’t provide an update on Bandido at the media scrum, but he did share his enthusiasm for his return:
“We haven’t seen Bandido in action in a year and a half, so it was really great to see him back,” Tony Khan said. “When I first acquired ROH, Bandido had been the reigning champion and of course, we had the match to crown the undisputed ROH Champion, he was the lineal champion at the time.
“It was great to get Bandido, who actually missed Final Battle ’21 due to COVID and we crowned an interim champion and then we crowned the undisputed champion at my first-ever event, Supercard. That was my first time working with Bandido.
“I really wanted to sign Bandido when we first launched AEW. And he actually made a choice, he stuck with ROH. He became a great World Champion for them and then when things changed in the world of wrestling and I acquired the company, Bandido became a great asset to AEW and ROH.”
