In the semi-main event, Chris Jericho finally faced off against Cody Rhodes for the AEW World Championship.

Early in the match, Rhodes had control until he crashed and burned with a springboard dive that Jericho dodged. The AEW World Champion would then take advantage of the bloody challenger, slowing the pace down and methodically beat down Rhodes. The match turned in Cody’s favor after he countered the Lionsault, and the 34-year-old had a fiery comeback that would be stopped by Hager briefly.

The Bellator fighter would be ejected from ringside by the referee following a stiff punch to Rhodes.  Moments later, Cody would score a several strong near fall after connecting with his finisher, CrossRhodes. In the end though, a bloody and battered Cody was locked deep into the Walls of Jericho and MJF would throw in the towel and stop the match.

Following Chris Jericho’s big celebration with his Inner Circle members, the 23-year-old would show his true colors by turning on his protégé and friend Cody, leaving the challenger lying in the ring.
