Kenny Omega’s swan song was indeed confirmed to be at Wrestle Kingdom 13 when he dropped the IWGP Heavyweight title to Hiroshi Tanahashi.

‘The Cleaner’ himself confirmed that he was leaving New Japan at the Wrestle Kingdom 13 press conference once his contract expires at the end of month.

Meltzer reported that AEW met with New Japan Pro-Wrestling officials, with neither side coming to an agreement thus eliminating the potential for a cross promotion partnership; however, that might have changed.

Kenny Omega is indeed a huge asset to New Japan as they continue to expand into the United States thus, the company is reportedly scrambling to keep the former IWGP Heavyweight champion in some type of way.

Wrestletalk.com was able to translate what Dave Meltzer said about the situation regarding Kenny Omega and New Japan:

“New Japan does not want to lose Kenny Omega badly.”

“New Japan really wants Kenny Omega so they may be working with All Elite. I don’t know how it’s all going to come down. But it definitely went from the idea that they’re not going to be working with All Elite now, but they may at some point, anything can happen at some point, but for now that wasn’t going to happen, to I think it’s got a very good shot at happening.”

Meltzer made it clear that nothing has been finalized to his knowledge, and that things seem to be changing all the time. Meltzer is certain that Kenny is heading to AEW come February once his New Japan contract ends.
