It's been a while since we heard an update on former IWGP Heavyweight champion, Hiroshi Tanahashi; however, the company has finally given some news about the New Japan star.

Back at the Madison Square Garden show, Tanahashi suffered an elbow injury in his British Heavyweight championship match against Zack Sabre Jr. It’s unknown how long the New Japan veteran will be out of action, but the good news is that Tanahashi has had successful surgery and has been discharged from the hospital:

As previously stated, the return date for the veteran has yet to be confirmed, but it is possible for Tanahashi to be in this year’s G1 Climax tournament. Thus far, Kota Ibushi, Kazuchika Okada, Jay White, and Tetsuya Naito are the only confirmed participants for the annual competition.
