Adam Cole Defeats Velveteen Dream In A Backlot Brawl At NXT TAKEOVER: IN YOUR HOUSE

There was a lot of speculation that this might be Velveteen Dream's night, but Adam Cole (baybay) managed to retain the NXT Championship in a hard-hitting Backlot Brawl at TakeOver: In Your House...

Adam Cole's historic reign as NXT Champion continues, as the leader of the Undisputed ERA successfully defended the title against Velveteen Dream in a Backlot Brawl at TakeOver: In Your House.

As expected, the match employed cinematic elements similar to what we saw in the Boneyard Match between Undertaker and AJ Styles at WrestleMania, but far less effectively. It had its moments, but things just never seemed to come together and it was difficult to get invested in the story these guys were trying to tell.

In the end, the other members of The Undisputed ERA get involved before being seen off by Dexter Lumis, leaving Cole vulnerable to a Dream Valley Driver/Purple Rainmaker combo on a pile of steel chairs. This wasn't enough to put him away, however, and the champ recovered long enough to hit a Panama Sunrise on those same chairs to keep Dream down for the 3-count.

As per the stipulation, Velveteen Dream will never get another shot at the title while Adam Cole is champion. Does this confirm a recent rumor that he'll soon be moving to Raw or SmackDown? We'll just have to wait and see, but Adam Cole's 365+ day reign as NXT Champion continues, and we honestly don't know who's left to challenge it. Finn Balor would be our best guess, but as far as we know he's still scheduled to feud with WALTER for the UK Championship once travel restrictions have eased up.

What do you guys think?
