Well, that was something.
A few eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano would finish their storied rivalry with yet another 2-out-of-3 falls match at NXT TakeOver: Toronto, but the added "3 stages of hell" type stipulation made for a very exciting - not to mention surprisingly violent - main event.
The first fall was to be decided in a straight wrestling match, but Gargano allowed himself to be disqualified after hitting Cole with a chair, which led to the street fight. Johnny Wrestling won that fall by forcing the Undisputed Era leader to tap out to the Gargano Escape, and then it was time for the steel cage full of weapons.
Both men doled out and received a lot of punishment, but the match ended when they climbed to the top of the cage and threw each other back down into the ring through a pair of tables. Cole then weakly managed to fling his arm over Gargano for the victory.
It looks like Johnny Wrestling may now move up to the main roster, so who will step up to challenge for the NXT Championship in his stead? Hopefully we'll find out this Wednesday.
