In possibly the biggest shocker going into the weekend, Jake Christ won the X-Division championship for the first time in his career!
Rich Swann has held the title since Impact Homecoming in January, defeating challengers such as Sami Callihan and most recently, Johnny Impact. However, the Baltimore native was unable to overcome Christ, who had some major help from Dave Christ and Madman Fulton.
Swann seemed to have the match-up under control until the former WWE superstar pushed the champion off the top rope. Christ capitalized by nailing a Sliced Bread Cutter and ultimately got the three count. Impact seems to be teasing a storyline between Christ and Sami Callihan
; During the Mash-Up Tournament last week, Jake actually turned on “The Draw” during their match-up.
Christ bragged about winning the X-Division title unlike Sami, who couldn’t get the job done against Rich Swann on multiple occasions. This is the first singles title reign for Christ, as the only gold he’s held is the Impact Tag Team titles.
