Abyss was one of the biggest staples of early TNA Wrestling.
Chris Park actually appeared on TNA’s first pay-per-view, Justice, back in 2002. However, the Abyss character wouldn’t make his debut until June 2003, attacking Erik Watts. From that moment on, Abyss/Chris Park would remain in TNA Wrestling for 17-years.
The 51-year-old was actually inducted into the 2018 Hall of Fame. During that time, Abyss would win multiple titles including the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, X-Division Championship, and the TNA Television Championship. However, Abyss would finally leave the promotion in 2019.
Park would officially retire from in-ring action in 2020, with his final match being against Mojo McQueen in a Monster's Ball at Rival Showdown Pro-Wrestling…And Out Come The Wolves in 2019. Since that time, Park has been a backstage producer for WWE, with one of the matches on his resume being CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre in Hell in a Cell.
Abyss surprisingly popped up in a recent DLC pack of WWE 2K25. Luckily, Sean Ross Sapp got an interview with the WWE producer and asked whether that could lead to an in-ring return.
"To answer quite frankly, I’m done. Physically, I don’t have plans on wrestling again. Never say never, but I don’t see it in the cards, nor do I want it in the cards. I’m so happy with what I’m doing and the challenge that being a producer presents to me every day there. I’m so focused on that and being the best producer I can be.
I had a great career with no regrets. Nothing I would have changed. It was time to move on and fortunately, I was lucky enough to be presented the opportunity to be a producer for the biggest and best wrestling company in the world. That, to me, was something that I never saw coming. I never thought that was going to be a possibility, just like I never thought this video game participation would be a possibility. That’s what I’m focused on now. Being the best producer I can be and contributing to the business that way."
Park further explained that his focus is deeply involved with being a producer, something that he’s truly proud of:
“I just feel where I’m at in my life and career, I’m so enthralled in being a producer, I feel that’s where I’m best served. I’m focused on that and I continue to learn. It’s a learning process. I learn every week from the minds that I’m around and the talent I work with. It’s a non-stop learning process. That’s where my focus is at. If the opportunity ever rose and it’s the right situation, I just don’t think that’s where I want to be. I want to focus on being the best producer I can be.”
