Titus O'Neil Still Isn't Entirely Sure Why WWE Suspended Him After Daniel Bryan's Retirement Speech
Last year, Titus O'Neil was suspended after laying his hands on Vince McMahon and seemingly joking around just moments after Daniel Bryan announced his retirement from wrestling. Titus, however, doesn't get it.
Titus O'Neil was in the doghouse for a long time after returning from his 60-day unpaid suspension in 2016 but is finally beginning to get over thanks to his new Titus Worldwide gimmick. At the time, it was widely reported that O'Neil was suspended for grabbing Vince McMahon's arm and messing around on camera just moments after Daniel Bryan's heartbreaking retirement speech.
While Vince seemed to react positively to being grabbed/shoved, it took no time at all for Titus to be suspended and he's now revealed that he's still not entirely sure why that happened.
"I still don’t understand it. I literally put my hand out and said, ‘Ladies first.’ So I don’t know what the wrong time is to say, ‘Ladies first’ or the right time. It’s water under the bridge. It happened and I took ownership of it regardless if I was right, wrong, or indifferent, or if the situation could have been handled different. It happened. I served my suspension and its over with. It goes back to the fact that I know who I am and I know what I did and I know why I did it and God has rewarded me tenfold."
It's pretty obvious that WWE wasn't happy either with Titus' decision to playfully grab the owner of the company and that his behaviour was disrespectful to Bryan. However, it did seem like something of an overreaction, especially when O'Neil is one of the company's most visible Superstars in terms of public appearances; bear in mind that he was voted Celebrity Dad of the Year too.
It's no secret WWE has its own bizarre way of punishing those they believe have done "wrong" and O'Neil's suspension did seem overly harsh. Regardless, he's certainly doing a lot better now!
