WWE touted some impressive figures during a conference call with investors yesterday, but it didn't take long for Vince McMahon to dominate the headlines.
While no charges have been brought as of yet, it's been confirmed that federal law enforcement agents executed a search warrant and served a federal grand jury subpoena on the WWE Chairman on July 17.
This comes after WWE received voluntary and compulsory legal demands for documents, including from federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies, regarding the sexual assault allegations made against McMahon. That's primarily related to whether he used company funds to allegedly pay several women off.
We've previously heard that they received as much as $20 million over the course of several years. While McMahon briefly retired, he later forced himself back into the company in order to facilitate the sale of the company to UFC owner Endeavor.
However, he's now said to be on indefinite medical leave after undergoing major spinal surgery, coincidental timing considering recent headlines.
"In 2022, WWE formed a special committee to review allegations of misconduct against me," McMahon said in a statement yesterday. "That review was concluded in November 2022 following an extensive investigation. Throughout this experience, I have always denied any intentional wrongdoing and continue to do so."
"I am confident that the government’s investigation will be resolved without any findings of wrongdoing. I am focused on completing the recovery process from my recent spinal surgery and on closing our transaction with Endeavor, which will create one of the preeminent global sports and entertainment brands."
WWE adds, "We believe this is a continuation of the investigation that commenced last summer. WWE has cooperated throughout and fully understands and respects the government’s need for a complete process."
We'll be sure to keep you updated as this situation continues to develop, but at least he'll be taking a break from creative for a while...
