It may have been Christmas Day yesterday, but that doesn't mean the world of pro wrestling was without its fair share of drama.
Before CM Punk was fired by AEW earlier this year for an alleged backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In, he was part of an incident in 2022 that's become known as "Brawl Out." As the name suggests, there was some sort of fight between the Best in the World and members of The Elite following months of rising tensions and comments made by a frustrated Punk during All Out 2022's media scrum.
We've since heard countless conflicting accounts of what happened and who was in the wrong, but everyone involved - Punk, Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks, for example - are all thought to have signed NDAs which means they can't openly discuss the incident.
Recently, attorney Stephen P. New confirmed he represented Punk and Steel in the wake of that clash and it prompted Chris Jericho to weigh in. He's believed to have been present for at least some of "Brawl Out," and now claims he's not under an NDA.
"I don’t adhere to an employee handbook and have NEVER had one in 4 years of working for [AEW]," he said in a lengthy X post. "[Stop] trying to be a bully and making egotistical fantasy brags for your clients, and start doing some research before you make blanket statements about your buddies. Because I saw EVERYTHING that night...including how Lucy (and her husband and best buddy) acted and what really went down."
"Since I was in the room and watching her and everybody else the whole time...I know exactly what really happened. And considering you weren’t there and I was...maybe you should shut your mark ass up. Because what really went down was disgusting."
This comes after Steel revealed his wife, Lucy, hadn't signed an NDA and could talk about what happened. Interestingly, despite Jericho recently seeming to wish Punk well, he clearly still has an issue with someone he once described as a "cancer" to the AEW locker room.
One person who wasn't buying Jericho's steadfast defence of AEW, however, was the legendary manager of The Midnight Express, Jim Cornette.
"God, Chris, it's Xmas--slap Tony's d*ck out of your mouth, you've got his Dad's money the next 10 years [and] the Buckaroos will still let you play with the cool kids," he stated. "You don't have to tell the truth, just QUIT LYING, Punk is sorry he made a difference in AEW business [and] you haven't."
It's no secret that Jericho is desperate to stay relevant in today's crowded pro wrestling landscape and that he's being paid a lot of money by AEW President Tony Khan, so it's hard to find fault with Cornette's assessment.
