The former Impact World Champion will be a free agent soon.
Josh Alexander sat down with Chris Van Vliet for an interview and confirmed when he’ll be a free agent:
“February 15 I’ll be a free agent. I mean, TNA announced they extended me, picked up my year extension on February 14 last year. So yeah, heading into free agency for the first time,” Alexander said.
Josh Alexander has been one of the biggest surprises in TNA for the past four years. He came in and took the tag team division by storm with Ethan Page as The North and the duo had an incredible run. However, there was some concern on the way officials might use Alexander following Page’s departure. But Scott D’Amore saw something special in Alexander and strapped a rocket to the former World Tag Team Champion.
The 38-year-old impressed fans in his brief run as X-Division Champion and it didn’t feel out of place when he beat Christian Cage to become the new Impact World Champion at Bound For Glory. Alexander would go on to have the longest reigning Impact World title run in the company’s history. He had great matches against Tomohiro Ishii, Rich Swann, and Mike Bailey.
But by the time February 2024 rolled around, Alexander had done everything he wanted to accomplish in Impact/TNA. The veteran wanted to explore free market, but TNA officials opted to exercise their one year option on the former world champion. As you can imagine, Josh Alexander wasn’t thrilled, but he carried himself as a professional and continued to perform at a high level in TNA.
He’s grateful that the company gave him such an opportunity and is excited for what the future holds:
“… I’ve done so much in TNA over the six years. I’m very grateful for it,” Alexander said. “Because opportunities are the one thing wrestlers need, and TNA has given me tons of countless opportunities to prove myself and show what I can do, but I’ve also done everything and worked with the bulk of the talent that’s in that company right now. So it’s just all about what’s going to get me excited beyond this point?”
Alexander discussed a variety of topics including a major injury scare, Will Ospreay, him breaking out of The North tag team, how he became the longest reigning world champion, and so much more. Check out the full interview below!
