Remember Chris Masters?
For all you ruthless aggression fans, Masters was one of the promising up-and-coming talents in the early 2000’s. He notably had a match against Shawn Michaels at Unforgiven 2005 and he even competed for the WWE Championship several titles in his career.
However, as the years went by, Masters was firmly in the mid-card as he had a tag team run with Carlito and challenged for the Intercontinental Championship on numerous occasions. The former WWE star is mainly known for his weekly Masterlock challenge. Chris Masters was in the WWE for nearly eight years off and on before being released for the second time in 2011.
The former WWE star has mainly been working on the independent scene ever since. Masters has had stints down in TNA/Impact, NWA, and AAA, but the 42-year-old still has a desire to return to the WWE. However, it’s been over ten years since Masters release and it doesn’t seem that the company is all that interested in bringing back the once promising young star.
Chris Masters did an interview with Rewind Relive Recap podcast and has seemingly lost hope that he’ll ever get a chance to work in a WWE ring ever again. He still loves the wrestling business, but he feels that it might not love him back.
“I’d like to, man, I’ve tried to work for that. I was with NWA for a minute, and that gave me kind of a good, at least, platform to show what I can do. But it’s tough, man, because I look around the landscape now and I just, I don’t know where that opportunity is going to come from. It might not be in the cards.
It doesn’t mean I’m gonna walk away from wrestling. It’s just one of those things where wrestling can be…the career of a wrestler goes through a lot where, in terms of, it’s a love-hate relationship. You love it sometimes, but sometimes you don’t feel like it’s loving you back. I’ve definitely fallen back in love with wrestling. But I’ve gotten to the point now where I just don’t feel like it’s loving me back.”
Anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling. Who knows, with Vince gone, maybe Triple H will feel the need to bring back Chris Masters to reform his tag team with Carlito. I can’t speak on whether he’s gotten better since his time in WWE, but if he does get a third chance then hopefully he surprises everyone and knocks it out of the park.
