More Details On Ric Flair's WWE Departure And Whether He's Planning To Sign With AEW

Earlier this week, WWE confirmed that Ric Flair has been released. Needless to say, the news took fans by surprise, and we've since heard conflicting reports about what led to that decision being made.

In today's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer attempts to clear things up. He noted that there are a lot of conflicting reports on what happened, but pointed out that WWE failed to wish the WWE Hall of Famer the best with his future endeavours in the statement on their website.

Apparently, there were a lot of different factors at play, including the fact the Nature Boy did indeed have a high salary. Despite only being a company ambassador and making sporadic appearances on television, Flair was supposedly making more money on his current deal than he did as WCW World Heavyweight Champion (which, when you stop and think about it, is pretty crazy).

Multiple sources have told Meltzer that Flair did indeed complain about the creative decisions being made with his daughter Charlotte.

As for a possible leap to AEW, Flair is indeed very close friends with AEW President Tony Khan (he was even a guest at the Nature Boy's wedding in 2018). With that in mind, it's a likely destination for him.
