We have a new Impact World Champion!
Just when we were settling into Eddie Edwards as the world champion, Eric Young and officials pull the rug from under the fans and now, Eric Young is the top dog of the company. The match-up has been building for weeks since Edwards called out Young for his violent attack on Rich Swann at Slammiversary.
Following last week’s assault, the bout started aggressive with Edwards on the attack. Young managed gain control with a clothesline. The situation for Edwards got worse as Young nailed a nasty neckbreaker on the apron. The returning Impact star continued to work on the neck of the 35-year-old throughout the match.
Eventually, Edwards regained control after a Blue Thunder Bomb. He then hit Young with various strikes and kicks, but the 40-year-old turned the tables again and almost came close to getting the victory here after an elbow drop.
Eddie came back with some more offensive flurry, but the beginning of the end was a flying cross body that actually hurt his knee on the landing. Young took advantage of the weaken champion, but Edwards fought back and connected with a tiger bomb. He couldn’t go for a cover due to selling his knee.
In the end, the referee took away the Impact World title from Young, but the challenger grabbed a hockey mask and clocked Edwards with the weapon as the ref was distracted. Young then hit the piledriver and got the three count.
