Rich Swann is forced to hang up the wrestling boots.

The former X-Division Champion hasn’t had the best year thus far as Swann was injured on two separate occasions. The latest, which was a violent assault from Eric Young at Slammiversary, has forced the Impact star to hang up the wrestling boots for good.

In a somber mood, Swann came out on crutches and spoke about the challenges he’s had to face in 2020. The Baltimore native didn’t hesitate to put the blame on Eric Young and discussed the difficult decision that he had to make following his match at Slammiversary. Swann officially announced his retirement from wrestling and proceeded to thank Impact and everyone involved for giving him an opportunity.

Swann left to cheers and applause from the Impact roster; however, Eric Young ambushed Swann from behind and used his crutches to beat down the 29-year-old. The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion ran away before the roster could get to him; however, the damage was already done.

While this was clearly an angle to fuel the Edwards/Young and future Swann and Young matches down the line, this was a well-done segment thanks to Swann’s strong mic work.
